This man is awesome! I loved his previous works and his most recent film, Inception, is just as good as the older movies.
If you haven't seen his other films, you should definitely check them out, especially Memento, The Prestige, and The Dark Knight. I haven't seen Insomnia, Following or Doodlebug yet so I can't really comment on those. I want to see the rest of his work so I made this post/list below. His films should all have a similar pattern of not starting the story in chronological order and jumping through different timelines. They are intelligent movies with psychological elements to them making you ask yourself mind-boggling questions.
List of 8 Christopher Nolan Films To Watch:
These were taken from IMDB. For his full filmography, check out his IMDB page. I've also linked the movie title to where you can watch the movie online with free streaming links/downloads :).Inception (2010)
Nolan had been developing the script for Inception for over 10 years and pitched the idea to Warner Bros after making Insomnia (2002). In the July 2010 Entertainment Weekly magazine article, Leonardo Dicaprio described Inception as a "combination of Insomnia, Memento, and studio-system spectacle." Inception stars Leonardo Dicaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Ken Watanabe, Dileep Rao, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger, Marion Cotillard, and Michael Caine. Whew, that is a pretty big cast.
The Dark Knight (2008)
Do I really need to talk about this film? It's one of the best and highest grossing films. Alright just to follow the format, The Dark Knight is based on the comic Batman and it deals with justice and morality as Batman battles the criminal mastermind, The Joker (Heath Ledger), to keep Gotham City safe . Enuff said. The Dark Knight stars Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman.
The Prestige (2006)
2 Magicians battling it out for prestige and a beautiful assistant (Scarlett Johansson) by performing illusions and mind tricks. The Prestige came out around the same time as the other magician movie, The Illusionist, starring Edward Norton and Jessica Biel. Have you seen both of them? I still need to see The Illusionist. Which one do you like?
Batman Begins (2005)
The story of how Bruce Wayne became Batman. Rachel Dawes was played by Katie Holmes and was replaced by Maggie Gyllenhaal in The Dark Knight. I thought Batman Begins was ok. It personally didn't wow me or anything. Though, I know my cousin loved it. Batman Begins mainly stars Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Katie Holmes, Gary Oldman, and Cillian Murphy.
Insomnia (2002)
Insomnia is about a detective whose "sleeplessness messes with his mind." I haven't seen this one yet. It's on my to see list. I did notice that Insomnia is the only film where he is just the director and not also the writer. In all his other films, he is the director and the writer. Do you think Christopher Nolan not being a writer and just the director affects the quality of the film? Insomnia stars Al Pacino, Robin Williams, and Hilary Swank.
Memento (2000)
Memento is a movie on a man that can't make short term memories or has anterograde amnesia and uses notes and tattoos to hunt for the man he thinks killed his wife. The story is told in a non-linear, fragmented narrative fashion. Memento features Guy Pearce, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Joe Pantoliano.
Following (1998)
Christopher Nolans first feature film. I haven't seen this one either. I found a megaupload link to download it (click the title). According to the IMDB plot, it is a crime and drama story of "a young writer who follows strangers for material meets a thief who takes him under his wing." Any opinions on the movie? It's black and white, which I'm not used to. lol
Short Films
Doodlebug (1997)
Doodlebug, one of Christopher Nolan's very first films, was made independently during his college years. It is a short film about 3 minutes long. The depths of insanity are explored by a man chasing something in his apartment with a shoe. I found a Youtube link to watch it below.Plot: A man is trying to catch some sort of bug running around his room. He takes his shoes off and intends to crush it under the heel of his loafer. However as he slowly begins to track the bug down and trap it, things chance dramatically but the man continues his course of action.
