There are a couple reasons why I got an ASUS Eee 1000H. I needed something that could do most of the tasks a full sized laptop could do and be portable. I take my ASUS Eee 1000H to campus, instead of lugging around my 15.4" laptop. I've had my netbook since around September 2008 and so far I like it. When I was choosing back then, it was between the MSI Wind and ASUS 1000H. I was pretty sold on the MSI until they had the shipment delays and 6 cell battery delays. Plus, a few reviews were saying the quality wasn't as good as the tested ones. So below are some of the other reasons that got me to bite the bullet for the ASUS Eee 1000H:

802.11 n wireless
10" screen size
easy to upgrade memory card (if I need to in the future)
speaker/audio - it has Dolby, the sound quality is seriously better than my regular laptop, i listen to music/movies alot.
6 cell battery - about 4-5 hours of battery life (based on the tasks/programs I have open)

When I get the chance, I think the next step would be to upgrade my memory to the maximum of 2gb. I also am tempted to buy the touchscreen kit on ebay to install it. But all these cost more money. :( They may happen slowly....
